Parvathi Nayar
Parvathi Nayar is a Chennai-based multidisciplinary artist and writer known for her intricate drawing practices, installations, mixed media work, text, and video art. Her practice engages deeply with sustainability, focusing on ecological concerns, climate change, and the elemental presence of waterโa recurring theme across her oeuvre.
Notable solo exhibitions include Biome (Kolkata), Atlas of Re-Imaginings (Chennai), and Drawing is a Verb (Singapore). Her multimedia installationsโsuch as Dreamcatcher, Oceanโs Breath, Chicken Run, and WAVEโactivate public spaces through diverse material and narrative languages.
Parvathi curated the award-winning permanent exhibition The Living Ocean (Dakshinachitra Museum, 2024), and created Limits of Change (Lalit Kala Akademi, 2025), a hybrid storytelling experience set within a nine-room art installation. She is also a founding member of The Hashtag#Collective.
Her works have featured globally at biennales, including the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and the Chennai Photo Biennale III and IV. Her short filmsโsuch as Seaspeaker and By the Mouth of the Riverโhave screened at international festivals. As a writer, she contributes thoughtful commentary on art and environment, further underscoring her multifaceted engagement with contemporary issues.
Parvathi holds a Masterโs degree in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, London, awarded on a Chevening Scholarship. Her TEDx talks have received critical acclaim for their insight and impact.
